Dear Byrnwyck Neighbors,

It with great sadness that I’m writing to share with you that long time Byrnwyck resident and one of the greatest volunteer contributors to our neighborhood, Rebecca “Becky” Williams passed away this past Wednesday, March 11.  More broadly, many of you may have known Becky as the former Mayor of Brookhaven and was instrumental in helping form the City.  Moreover, her list of accomplishments both Nationally and Locally are truly remarkable and impressive.  I would encourage you to read them in the obituary links below at the bottom.

While a resident of Byrnwyck, she served on the BCA Board for many years and most notably as our President for a number of years.  I personally had the privilege of serving with her on the BCA and was always impressed with her leadership, personability, deep knowledge of many topics, and commons sense solutions.  Just a few of her key contributions to our neighborhood that will endure well into the future and continue to serve us all include:

  • Successfully stopping development along Lake Hearn and obtaining a permanent easement which will prevent future development
  • Having the walking trails approved and installed at the Swim Tennis
  • Securing funding and overseeing the installation of the baby pool.

These are the ones I’m aware of, but I have no doubt there are many others.

Becky loved Byrnwyck so much that when she and Dick wanted to move years ago, they simply moved to another Byrnwyck home.  We were incredibly blessed and lucky to have someone of her caliber in our neighborhood.  Please keep her, Dick and their family in your thoughts and prayers.
